LSU V Oklahoma: See you Sooner Boomer

December 01, 20243 min read

First off I wanna start this by Saying, My prediction was right essentially. Not to toot my own horn too much, but I predicted a final score of 31-17 LSU would win, the final score was 37-17 in LSU favor. However, there were a few story lines and takeaways that came of this game that point to a bright future…

Aaron Anderson:

Aaron Anderson had the first kick return touchdown since the 2020 season against South Carolina. Oklahoma had just scored making the ball game 14-10. Oklahoma kicked the ball off, and Aaron Anderson was off to the races, out running Oklahomas special teams unit and getting great blocking by teammates going down the sideline. Felt like the switch in the game and the momentum shifter that LSU needed.

Garrett Nussmeier:

What a game he had. Nussmeier dished the ball all over the field hitting the likes of Chris Hilton for two touchdowns, which was great to see and is a separate storyline of the game. Nussmeier went down towards the beginning of the second quarter which seemed like a shoulder or collarbone injury, making a lot of LSU fans pessimistic about a return to the game as Nussmeier went to the locker room. Later, Nussmeier came out of the locker room and was practicing by warming up on the sidelines. Eventually, Nussmeier would come into the game and throw a bomb to Chris Hilton for a beautiful 45 yard touchdown strike, making the score 24-17 at half.

LSU would come out in the second half and dominate Oklahoma on all sides of the ball. Oklahoma would not score one point for the rest of the game and would show a multitude of struggles on the offensive side of the ball.

LSU Linebackers:

The linebacking core for LSU’s future seems to be very bright, as players like Whit Weeks and Dayvon Keys Lit up the stat sheet, both combining for 25 tackles, 4 tackles for loss and two sacks. It was obvious to see too, as when watching the defensive side of the ball all linebackers including Greg Penn were playing with their hair on fire. It’s great to also see leadership step up on the defensive side of the ball with players like Whit Weeks who has seemed to take matters into their own hands with some ball games and played awesome.

Overall, a great all-around victory for the Tigers. While the Tigers ended their season with a modest 8-4 record, this team has improved dramatically on the defensive side of the ball from last year and played about what was expected of them since losing the production from the previous team last year. If key pieces such as Harold Perkins, Emery Jones, and Garrett Nussmeier return, The sky will be the limit for this team as the coaching staff has made great strides with the defense, and the team was very young this year on the defensive side of the ball. However, it has been great to cover LSU football for the 2024 college football season, I look forward to the bowl game that will bring this season to a close and future developments for the LSU Bayou Bengals. As always, thank you and GEAUX TIGAHS.
