DID THIS REALLY HAPPEN.
Baseball Hall of Fame has now rescinded the “lifetime ban” that made Pete Rose ineligible for the HOF. No surprise to me. I predicted this exact scenario five years ago, and it has come to fruition.
Now, Charly Hustle can be put on the ballot in December of 2027 for induction in 2028. There is no guarantee that Rose will be enshrined but now there is a possibility of that happening.
So, what changed? New evidence that he didn’t bet on baseball? New statistics have come to light? Nope. He died.
That fact is the most disturbing to me. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred wrote this to Rose’s lawyer, and I quote, “Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game.”
So, by dying that threat to the integrity of the game has vanished? What a crock of malarkey from The Commish.
If I were the Rose family, I would inform the HOF to not bother even putting his name on the ballot. Why? Because if he were inducted, they should have two words for the people in Cooperstown and they’re not “Gee thanks” or “we’re grateful”
Bottom line is that this is a complete “slap in the face” to Rose and any other person associated with MLB. You couldn’t have allowed this to transpire while #14 was alive? You had to wait for him to die first so he couldn’t bask in that moment while he was alive? Cannot get any more petty and childish.
Shame on the HOF and MLB for taking this approach. A policy that is a true embarrassment that will haunt them for years.
Book it Dano!
