RECORDS THAT WON'T BE BROKEN. With the Opening Day of the MLB season in North America this week and that's another issue for another future Screamin' column my Records That Won't Be Broken column deals with hardball.

The record that won't be broken is for consecutive complete games by a major league starting pitcher. Now I have to break this into two sections. For hurlers before 1920 it's Jack Taylor with a 187 straight from 1901 to 1906. For pitchers after 1920 it's Robin Roberts of the Philadelphia Phillies completing 28 in a row from August of 1952 to May of 1953.

Here's why I believe these records will never be in jeopardy. In 2024 only 15 MLB pitchers started 29 games with the high water mark being 32.

With the way MLB is so enamored with analytics I don't expect for that number in the foreseeable future to go any higher than the low to mid 30s when it comes to starts. And with going through the lineup a third time being taboo guys taking the baseball for nine innings will be an extreme rarity. Just not going to happen.

Book it Dano!
