THOUGHTS FROM A SEPTUAGENARIAN.
So what will a 70 plus dinosaur like me talk about today? My musings will be short and sweet as they apply to the Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.
Here's how March Madness came to fruition. During my formative years as a fan in the late 1950s and early 1960s the post season tourney was only 16 teams. It doubled to 32 squads in 1975 and ten years later evolved into the 64 entries that we see today.
In fact the term March Madness was not even included in the lexicon of college basketball until 1982. That's when commentator Brent Musberger first uttered the term and it's been around ever since.
There you have it. I've lived long enough to witness a 16 team invitational sprint morph into a 64 team survive and advance marathon.
Only question is not if but when it will expand again. That's coming my loyal readers and listeners. Trust me on that one because an obscene amount of money can be made by going to 96 or more invitees to the Dance.
Book it Dano!
